SKY'S THE LIMIT

To mark the opening of its new pop-up space in Brussels, Galerie Bacqueville presents “Sky’s the Limit”, a solo exhibition by David De Beyter, a leading figure in contemporary French photography, whose work explores the intersections between documentary observation, anthropology and the construction of collective imaginaries.

For several years now, De Beyter has been developing The Skeptics, a wide-ranging research project devoted to scientific ufology – a community of enthusiasts who, far removed from sensationalist narratives, seek to study unexplained aerial phenomena through rigorous observation and a rational approach. Rather than focusing on the question of whether UFOs exist, the artist examines belief systems, methods of observation and the way in which images both shape and challenge contemporary mythologies.

Bringing together a selection of recent works, “Sky’s the Limit” extends this exploration through photographs that oscillate between documentary precision and perceptual ambiguity. Volcanic landscapes, luminous phenomena and traces left in the sky become the starting point for a broader reflection on the limits of perception, the reliability of the photographic image and the narratives we project onto reality.

By opening this exhibition in its new Brussels venue, Galerie Bacqueville places David De Beyter’s work at the heart of a city whose artistic landscape has long been shaped by dialogue, experimentation and the exchange of ideas. “Sky’s the limit” continues an artistic practice that questions our relationship with evidence, doubt and the invisible, transforming photography into a space where scientific research, fiction and collective memory converge.
