Tim Plamper est un artiste visuel berlinois né en 1982. Evoluant dans le champ du dessin et de la culture internet, son travail artistique traite des états mentaux - de la fiabilité douteuse de sa propre existence. Revendiquant l’influence de l’historien de l’art allemand Aby Warburg, Tim Plamper compose à partir d’images existantes issues de sources, d’époques ou d’esthétiques diverses pour servir un propos symbolique ouvert, où la composition même de l’image, complexe et énigmatique, n’épuise aucune interprétation, formant ce qu’il appelle un sédiment mental.

Un corps féminin dénudé. Un sol rocailleux. Deux béances circulaires telles des abîmes… Dans cette énigme visuelle au titre poétique, peut-être ou certainement politique, tout le processus de composition de dessin de Tim Plamper se révèle : il fragmente, assemble et superpose des images prises dans un flux quotidien d’images et obtient une œuvre symbolique, où il est question d’inconscience, de mythe et de temps sédimenté.


La proximité entre cette Vénus étendue (ou peut-être de cette Europe comme l’évoque le titre de l’œuvre, cette princesse phénicienne de la mythologie grecque enlevée par Zeus sous l’apparence d’un taureau, donnant son nom au Vieux Continent), et l’abîme, ce trou béant qui se dédouble et la frôle, interroge : précipice vers l’oubli ou symbole de (re)naissance ? De quoi cette pluie lave-t-elle ? Aujourd’hui, on imagine une Europe résiliente, jeune, consciente des défis qui l’attendent. Mais dans 100 ans, L’Europe après la pluie jouira d’une autre lumière, d’un autre contexte de résonance, d’une autre couche de temps et donc, d’autres sens. En plus d’être virtuose dans sa technique classique (crayon sur papier), dans ses restitutions de textures et de lumière, l’œuvre de Tim Plamper paraît intemporelle.
